Thinking about full-time RV living? You're not alone! Many people are curious about what life on the road is really like. As full-time RVers, we often get asked the same questions over and over. Below, we’re answering three of the most frequently asked questions about RV life. If you have more, feel free to reach out!

  1. How Do You Find Privacy and Personal Space in an RV?

Living in an RV full-time means sharing a small space with family, but that doesn’t mean we don’t have privacy. Here’s how we make it work:

    • Separate Bedrooms & Workstations:

Our RV has designated sleeping areas and workstations, which allow us to spread out when needed.

    • Outdoor Space:

One of the best things about RV living is that our backyard is always changing. If someone feels cooped up, they can step outside for fresh air, go for a hike, or relax by the campfire.

    • Alone Time for Parents:

Now that our kids are older, my husband and I can take walks or bike rides together to reconnect. Having that personal time is crucial.

Adjusting to small-space living takes time, but with a little creativity, everyone can have their own space!

  1. What Curriculum Do You Use for Homeschooling on the Road?

Two kids focus on laptops at a window seat with trees outside. Notebooks, pencils, and a plant are on the table. Cozy, studious vibe.

Homeschooling while traveling is an adventure in itself. When we first started, we used Shell Education workbooks from Amazon. However, they didn’t provide enough explanations for the kids’ lessons, which made learning more challenging.

After some trial and error, we found a system that works:

    • Khan Academy:

A free online resource that my daughter loved, especially for math. My son enjoyed their Pixar storytelling course. However, it was hard to track their progress.

    • Time4Learning:

This is the program we use now. It provides structured lessons, automatic grading, and a parent dashboard where I can monitor progress. The kids no longer use workbooks, but they do study foreign languages with Duolingo. Their learning primarily takes place online, using laptops to complete lessons and track progress.

Every family’s homeschool journey looks different, but finding a curriculum that keeps kids engaged and makes tracking progress easy is key!

  1. How Do You Stay Connected with Family and Friends? Do Your Kids Get Any Socialization?

Two children sit on novelty horse and cowboy chairs, overlooking a desert landscape with mountains at sunset. Cars are parked nearby.
Lylah and her new friend, Amelia, in Terlingua, Texas.

Living on the road actually makes our kids experts at socializing with both children and adults. Meeting new people frequently encourages them to be outgoing and form connections quickly.

    • Staying in Touch with Friends:

The kids use Kids Messenger to stay connected with their friends from home and new friends they meet on the road.

    • Socializing for Parents:

My husband and I meet people at campgrounds, and I also stay connected with fellow RV women through RV Queens. We communicate daily via Marco Polo groups for support and encouragement, and we have a social gathering once a month.

    • Expanding Our Community:

We are looking into more ways to connect, including Thousand Trails, Full-Time Family Rallies, and the Tampa RV Show. The RV community is vast, and there are plenty of opportunities to meet and engage with like-minded travelers.

There are many ways to stay social on the road, and we’re always finding new ways to connect and build lasting friendships.

Full-time RV living comes with its challenges, but the freedom and adventure make it all worthwhile. Have more questions about RV life? Send us a message—we’re happy to share our experiences!
